The subconscious is a fascinating and important topic for all of us. Today, let’s take a close look at it and find solutions to the problems it can cause. Your subconscious is the single most important factor shaping your fears, your likes and dislikes, and even your beliefs about yourself. Think of it as a storage space: every experience you have — good or bad, even a meal you enjoyed — gets stored there.
Whatever is in your subconscious is what you live!
In this article I’ll answer two questions: how does the subconscious work, and how do we overcome the problems that come from it? Learning about the subconscious brings real benefits — the better we understand how it works, the more ways we can find to solve any problem rooted there.
How Subconscious Codes Are Formed
When we explore the subconscious, we come across different “subconscious codes.” To see how they work, let’s take the code of worthlessness as an example.
The first thing that creates negative subconscious codes is past trauma, or a traumatic period. An event in early childhood, or not receiving enough love from our family as children, can be traumatic. Someone who has been through the trauma of not being loved then makes certain decisions about themselves.
Making a decision about ourselves is the second stage in forming a subconscious code. For example, a child in this traumatic situation — whose family doesn’t show them love and keeps comparing them to others — eventually reaches a conclusion. Having decided “I am worthless,” the child turns that decision into a subconscious code, and from then on their life runs on that code. The worthlessness code restricts most of what they do. Their self-confidence drops, they become unable to do even things they’re capable of, and — most importantly — their expectations of other people grow.
Don’t Waste Your Time on Methods That Don’t Work
We often see people with subconscious problems looking for solutions in the wrong places. Video platforms are full of meditation videos repeating lines like “You are valuable, you are amazing.” Of course those statements are completely true for you — but they won’t solve the problem in your subconscious code. However many times they’re repeated, people who feel worthless won’t let go of that belief because of a few sentences.
If the source of your code is a trauma, there’s no point working on the code itself — everything you need to focus on comes from the trauma. If the problem is tied to something that happened in the past, we need to remove, at the root, the feelings that event created in you. If you’re asking, “How do I remove the fear, sadness or other negative emotions I felt at that time — at the root?”, here is the answer.
Take a family: a mother, a father and a child. Suppose the parents show the child no love, compare them to other children at every opportunity — in short, treat them badly. Does that mean the child is worthless? Is the child worthless, or are the parents simply unaware and unskilled? When we analyse those two questions carefully, we’ll agree that a child’s worth can never be diminished by such events. If we can give ourselves that answer, we’ve already come almost halfway to the solution.
